“Look, the days are coming” — this is the Lord’s declaration —
“when I will raise up a Righteous Branch for David.
He will reign wisely as king
and administer justice and righteousness in the land.
In his days Judah will be saved,
and Israel will dwell securely.
This is the name he will be called:
The Lord Is Our Righteousness.
There have been a number of clues so far that help us determine the identity of the Messiah; He will be a descendant of Eve, Abraham, Judah, and David. He will be a Prophet, Priest, and King. Each day I have suggested that the Messiah is Jesus. Each of the prophecies that we have examined can be seen as fulfilled in Jesus. If this assertion is right, which is the crux of the Christian faith, then this verse is a fabulous promise.
Jesus is this glorious King. Today, He leads His Church with wisdom, justice, and righteousness. As Christians, we are branches ourselves, being fed from His Vine (John 15:5). The perfect righteousness of Christ is given to us. His wisdom is shared through His Holy Spirit. And through the most merciful act of God, justice is served in the death of Jesus. All the things that we could ever what in a leader, are in Jesus today. The day is coming when the already/not-yet Kingdom of Jesus will be fully realized, and all these qualities will be executed worldwide. In that day, the second Advent of Jesus, our anticipation will be over and we will behold Him.
